Origin of Kirok

I am Kirok

Letter from JD, originator of Kirok:

The precursor to Kirok started in 1993. Ruston Slager and JD went hiking up that way and discovered that rolling rocks was cool. We rolled rocks from the lower hill on the left hand side and did not go all the way to the top of Kirok Mountain. That was the same year (again with Ruston) that I first did Dagget Peak. I had not been back to Dagget Peak until this year with you.

I believe it was 1995 that I did the first solo hike to Kirok (un-named at that point) as a relief from Copco boredom. During that hike I planted the Y-shaped stick at the top the remains to this day. Minor rock rolling occured but, without a Kirok stick, it was uneventful and actually, quite pathetic.

Rock rolling, of course, was elevated to a whole new level in 1998 with the christening of Kirok Mountain !
